This week I've been a bit slower at reading. I've continued to be pretty sick which makes reading hard while watching an ever more mobile one-year-old. However, a couple of days ago I finished reading The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates. It was such a wonderful read. It also has left me reflecting on what I read and has made me want to learn more about The Underground Railroad.

My favorite part of the book was the relationship of Hiram and Sophia. It was complicated and beautiful and forced me to think differently about a lot of things. Sophia herself was a character that I felt was written excellently. It was her story and actions that have made me keep pondering the book. Kudos to Coates who wrote something wonderful and meaningful.

Today I'll be starting the first Star Wars book I've ever read to celebrate May the Fourth Be With You. I'm not opposed to Star Wars but I'd definitely say I don't know much about it. Science Fiction is a great genre with a ton of writers who are incredibly skilled, but it's always stressed me out to read for some reason. I think I often associate Science Fiction with dystopian novels which I'm not a huge fan of. Of course, I know not all science fiction novels will have dystopias, it's just that most of the ones I've read have.

The book I'll be reading is Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark by Claudia Gray. I'm excited to see what it's all about. I'll report on how it goes next week.

Thank you so much for reading my blog. What time periods in history do you enjoy reading about? What are the best relationships you've read about in books? What are the best books based on movie, TV, or videogame franchises you've read?

Keep dreaming and daydreaming of the wonderful worlds in your head.
