I was super excited to go to the library this week because I had two interesting books waiting for me. The first one was the first graphic novel I've read for a long time. It's called Through the Woods by Emily Carroll. It's a series of horror short stories with an incredible atmosphere. I had made a goal to read half of it that night and the rest the next but ended up reading it all in one night. The art was spectacular and I noticed a lot of tricks that could help in my own writing.

Graphic novels have to portray entire stories while avoiding being too wordy. I noticed that the author, to create a mood in the writing, used a lot of repetition and emphasized certain words and phrases. It reminded me that I need to be doing this in my own writing.

The other book I picked up from the library was Last Call A Story of Love, Lust, and Murder in Queer New York by Elon Green. I've never read a true crime story before. It has made me profoundly sad that a person could ever treat another less than human. I deeply appreciate that the author focused so much on the victims who deserve to be remembered and cherished.

Green is an incredible author. The way he sets up a scene is masterful and his ability to bring out the voices of many groups is commendable. His writing means something and I'd like my writing to mean something to someone as well, even if it's through a fiction rather than a non-fiction lens.

I just can't get enough of Pokemon Legends Arceus. Last night I completed the pokedex, postgame, and got the shiny charm. I'm going to spend the next few days shiny hunting and then jump completely into another game. I want to finish Disco Elysium but I also just bought Dragon Quest I, II, and III. Dragon Quest is my second favorite game series and so I'm very excited to see how it all began.

Thank you so much for reading my blog. What are some meaningful books you've read? Do you have any graphic novel suggestions?

Keep dreaming and day dreaming of all the wonderful worlds in your head.
