I apologize for the late post. This week my parents were visiting and it made things busier than I thought. I had a fun weekend though. I hadn't seen my parents for a little over a year which made it feel special. This week, in the new book I started, I've had a lot of fun. I've never been a huge romance fan. I do like a little romance in books but I typically don't seek out a book for that reason. In the book I'm writing currently, however, I'm setting up two characters to be romantically interested in each other. I've written books where romance is hinted at or the romance is completely one sided and usually unhealthy, but the relationship between these two characters is nice, clean, and built on trust. It has been incredibly fun to write which I hadn't expected.

I had a creative writing teacher, probably quoting someone else, who always said the hardest genres to write are horror and romance. I think about that quote over and over again as I'm writing these two characters. I hope that their relationships feel legitimate and sincere. I feel like that quote is applicable because fear and love are often portrayed in similar ways, in ways that can make the two powerful emotions feel like a series of clichés. It's hard to avoid sounding like every other romance whether it be in the characterization or describing emotions. However, it has been a very fun challenge and it's fun seeing the characters grow closer and closer together.

On the editing front, I finally got past editing out the most heavily repeated words and phrases in my book. I should be done with this round of editing in the next couple of days and can move on to reading the book again and making sure all plot holes are filled and everything is consistent.

Thank you so much for reading my blog. What kind of romances do you enjoy reading about? What are some tips for writing a good romance? What part of editing is your least favorite?

Keep dreaming and daydreaming of all the beautiful worlds in your head.
